After a long, hard day there’s nothing more rewarding than a stress-relief massage, and whilst a few of us are fortunate enough to have a partner or spouse who’d gladly sooth away our aching muscles with a few profound hand motions, many of us have to reach out for the professional hand of an Indian Head Massage practitioner.
Indian Head Massage is a holistic practice that is said to promote blood circulation and concentration whilst easing away our daily tensions and strains. It also flushes out toxins and improves skin tone, as well as helping to alleviate stress related conditions such as anxiety, tension headaches and migraines. Indian Head Massage rebalances energy flow and is effective on the three upper ‘chakras’, which regulates mind, body and spirit.
What is a Chakra? ‘A Chakra’, which is a Sanskrit word that translates to ‘wheel’, is a spinning centre of energy in the body. There are seven main ‘chakras’ within us and each one is assigned with a colour and purpose. The Chakras start at the base of the spine and run up to the top of the head. In order to retain optimum health, the ‘chakras’ all have to run ‘in tune’ with each other to attain efficiency.
Indian Head Massage is a complementary therapy and should not be used in place of medical treatment.
The practice
The method primarily involves working on the head and face but it also involves massaging tensed shoulders, neck and upper back.
When choosing an Indian Head Massage practitioner it’s prudent to select someone who is a member of an accredited institute or body to ensure that you are given the service by someone who is qualified and properly trained.
On your first consultation your therapist will go through your medical history and ask about your lifestyle, you can also address any questions you may have at this point.
You’ll be fully clothed during the practice and seated upright in a chair. Your practitioner will then use their hands to massage areas of your face, head, neck and upper back. The session will last from around twenty to thirty minutes, with your first consultation lasting up to an hour.
The Benefits
Indian Head Massage is reputedly beneficial for headaches, stress, tension, migraines, sleeping problems, such as insomnia, sinusitis and fatigue. It helps to relax you, release tension from your muscles and restores vitality.
